Wesley Wisdom Loses Life in Rhine Crossing
Former Wrayite Had Been in Army Three Years, Home Was at GreeleyPFC Wesley Wisdom, who made his home here for many years with the Harry Schmidt family, was killed in action March 6, at the time of the American crossing of the Rhine river in Germany, his wife Esther, who lives on Federal Avenue, Denver was notified Friday by the war department. Mr. Schmidt learned of his nephew's death when he arrived by plane on his return from a visit in Portland, Oregon.
PFC Wisdom lived at Wray until about four years ago when he moved to Greeley where he was employed. He was among the first men drafted from Greeley. He was serving overseas with the Ninth Army.

Pfc. John Wesley Wisdom, above, holder of the Purple Heart, has died of wounds, his wife has been notified.
Wounds Fatal to J. Wisdom
Pfc. John Wesley Wisdom died March 6 in Germany from wounds received in action under fire of enemy artillery, according to a war department telegram received by his wife, Mrs. Esther Kitzman Wisdom.
Besides serving in Germany, Pfc. Wisdom fought in North Africa, Sicily, England and on D-Day went into France. For wounds received on D-day he was awarded the Purple Heart. After recovering, he was sent to Belgium, Holland and then to Germany where he was a member of the Second armored division of the Ninth army.
Pfc. Wisdom attended schools in Yuma and Wray, and before entering the service in Dec., 1942, he was employed in Portland, Ore., shipyards. He went overseas in May 1943. During his three years in service he had never received a furlough.
He is survived by his wife and son, Robert Leland, one brother Pfc. William L. Wisdom serving with the marines in the South Pacific, and an uncle Harry Schmidt of Wray, Colo. He was well known in Weld county, having lived in Greeley several years.
