"The sudden death of Mrs. Alice Winterstein at her home six miles northeast of Kirwin last week has caused sorrow and sadness in the whole neighborhood. Mr. Winterstein has the sympathy of all his acquaintances."

His father " Joseph E. Winterstein and Fannie E. Brooks, of this county, were married in this city yesterday afternoon by Judge Strain.

In 1900 Smith County, Kansas, Joseph E. Winterstein is 30, Fanny A. Winterstein 30, Leo A. Winterstein 5, and George R. Brook 12 stepson.

Listed as "died" with a home town of Vernon in the 1941 Colorado Adjutant General book, Roster of Men and Women Who Served in the World War from Colorado, 1917-18. The footnote would seem to indicate that Leo died of causes other than wounds.

Leo Albert Winterstein, age 24, born Nov, 11, 1893, Griswold, Iowa, registered for the draft June 5, 1917 in Yuma Co. At that time he was living near Vernon and working for Mason Chamberlain of Vernon. He was single and listed no next of kin.
Tall, slender, brown eyes, dark hair.
