Robert C. Wages Made Supreme Sacrifice in France Sept. 8
Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Wages were officially notified Wednesday evening that their son Robert was killed in France on september 8th. Robert was serving with a tank destroyer unit. Another Yuma county boy has laid down his life for his country. The entire community mourns with Mr. and Mrs. Wages in the loss of their son.
Robert was the twin brother of Mrs. Chas. W. Lettler, nee Ruth Edna Wages, who passed away Aug. 30th at the Wheatridge Sanatorium. Robert was born June 28, 1928 at Exline.
Robert C. Wages
Robert C. Wages was born June 28, 1918 at Exline, Iowa. The following year he moved with his parents to near Vernon where he spent his early boyhood. In 1929 he moved with his parents to Hale, where they resided until 1934 at which time they moved to Laird and then to Wray.
He entered the service of his country March 21, 1942 going to Camp Cook, Calif. for his basic training. From there he went to Camp Hood, Texas where he received Tank Destroyer and Commando training. He earned Sergeants stripes and was sent to Camp Lewis, Wash. with Co. C. 750th Bn. Tank Destroyers.
In December 1943 Robert was home on furlough. He left for overseas service in April 1944 and was killed in action Sept. 8th.
He is survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Wages of Wray, four brothers and two sisters: Leo C. Wages of Greeley, Paul E. Wages who is serving with the Tank Corps in the European Theatre, Pauline M. Pilkington of Grand Lake, Fred R. Wages of Cheyenne, Wyo., Russell E. Wages serving with the US Navy and Betty L. Eyestone of Wray. Roberts twin sister Ruth preceded him in death August 30, 1944. He also leaves to mourn a host of other relatives and friends.

Sgt. Robert C. Wages, a son of Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Wages of Wray, was killed in action in France on September 8. He entered Army service in March of this year [1942]. He participated in the liberation of France. By an ironical twist of fate, his death occurred a week following the death of his twin sister, Mrs. Charles W. Littler of Denver. Surviving brothers and sisters are Leo G. Wages of Greeley, Fred R. Wages of Cheyenne, Wyoming, Mrs. Pauline Pilkington of Grand Lake, Mrs. Betty Lou Eyestone of Denver, Russell E. Wages who is with the Navy training at Ames, Iowa and T/Sgt. Paul E. Wages also serving in France.
