Wray Boy Killed in Vietnam Sat.

HM3 Larry Wells, 21, of Wray, stationed in Vietnam and serving with the Third Marine Division, was killed in action Saturday, Jan 13.

Wells was a senior Corpsman of Mike company located near Taman approximately 300 meters from the DMZ.

Larry Dean Wells was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Wells who reside on a farm southeast of Wray, and the brother of Wayne Wells, a senior at Wray high school. Mr. and Mrs. D.E. Wells of Wray and Mrs. Beulah Lewis of Lakewood, Calif. are the grandparents.

He was born and raised in Wray and was a 1964 graduate of Wray high school. He was an avid sports fan and entered in school activities, scouts and church work.

After graduation from high school he attended one year at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling and entered the U.S. Marines in February of 1966.

Wells was home on leave at Thanksgiving time and had been stationed in Vietnam since Dec. 6.

Funeral services are pending.

Wells Services Today At Christian Church

Funeral services will be held Thursday (today) for Larry Dean Wells, at 10 a.m. at the First Christian Church with Reverend David McKay officiating. Pallbearers will be members of the U.S. Navy Honor Guard from Buckley Field in Aurora.

Larry Dean Wells was born December 15, 1946 to Robert and Maxine Wells in the Wray Community Hospital and gave his life in the service of his country January 13, 1968 in Vietnam.

He attended Wray schools, graduating from Wray High School in 1964. He attended NJC in Sterling for one year and then entered the United States Navy February 7, 1966.

In his training in the Navy, he took his basic and corpsman training in San Diego, Calif., and was stationed at the Naval Hospital in Philadelphia, Penn., for one year before going through and intensive five-week training session in overseas combat tactics at Camp Pendleton, Calif. On Nov. 27, 1967 he left the United States for duty in Vietnam.

He was an active member of the Christian Church of Wray, giving of himself and talents for work of the Christian Youth Fellowship. He was a member of the Boy Scouts and was active in the 4-H program. Other interests include photography and the drama activities of both the church and the school.

Left to mourn the passing of this young man are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wells, his brother Wayne; fiance, Sheila Renzelman; his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. D.E. (Chub) Wells of Wray and Mrs. Beulah Lewis of Lakewood, California, and a large number of relatives and many friends.

Military rites will be conducted by members of the American Legion, Johnny Hines Post No. 30 and V.F.W. Republican Valley Post No. 4671 at the Grandview Cemetery.
