Localite Killed in Action

This vicinity was saddened last Friday when word was received that Staff Sergeant Chester V. Hoyda of Stratton was killed in action while serving with the Fifth Army in Italy.

Staff Sgt. Chester V. Hoyda was a member of the 350th Infantry Regiment, a unit of the 88th "Blue Devil" Division of General Mark Clark's Fifth Army which company in January of this year took Mt. Battaglia in Italy, and held it for seven days of almost continuous German counter attack and close-quarter fighting.

The date of his death is not known at The Press office, but he had written his parents on December 19 stating he was at a rest camp but was to return to the lines soon.

The Press force joins the many friends of Mr. and Mrs. John Hoyda and family in extending sympathy in their hour of bereavement.
