Pilot Killed in Crash Near Cache

First Lt. James W. Currence, 24, Caldwell, Idaho, was killed late yesterday afternoon while on a routine training flight when his liaison plane crashed and burned near Cache, Col. Charles W. Gallaher, post commander, announced today.

Wearer of the Bronze Star Medal, he had served in the European theater of operations with the 278th field artillery battalion from July 15, 1944 to May 19, 1945; and participated in the north France, Rhineland and central Europe campaigns.

At the time of his death, he was a student in the liaison student pilot course at the department of air training, Field Artillery School.

Next of kin has been notified of his death.

A board of officers will investigate to determine the cause of the accident.

Funeral services for the late Lt. James W. Currence, formerly of Vancouver, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, Dec 4, 1945 at Hamiltons' chapel. Interment Park Hill Cemetery.

Lt. Currence is Summoned

Lt. James W. Currence, 24, formerly of Vancouver, died last Thursday at Fort Sill, Okla., it was announced today. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Currence, Caldwell, Idaho; the brother of Doris and Shirley Currence, Caldwell; the grandson of Mrs. Ila Currence, Vancouver, and of Mrs. Steinmitz, St. Louis, Mo.; the nephew of Mrs. Merle O'Day and Mrs. Grace Wilson, Vancouver. Lt. Currence was born at Wray, Colo.

Full military services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 4, in Hamilton's chapel, with Chaplain thomas Lusk officiating. Interment will be at Park Hill Cemetery [Vancouver].

JAMES CURRENCE KILLED IN PLANE CRASH

Mrs. Robert Jewell received word her cousin, Lieutenant James W. Currence, 23, met death in an airplane crash. Details are lacking. Lt Currence served with the Third Army under General Patton throughout the war, and shortly after hostilities ceased was transferred to the United States for further training. Jimmy was a former Yuma county boy, Wray being his birthplace, later moving to Van Couver, Washington, with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Currence, and two sisters, Doris and Shirley, of Caldwell, Idaho. Burial was at Van Couver, Wash. Dec 4.
