Community is Shocked by Sudden Death of Francis J. Conrad

Francis James Conrad, 40, widely known Wray resident, died suddenly Wednesday morning at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.Q. Conrad. Death was believed to have been caused by a heart attack. He was one of the Yuma County inductees who had been accepted for military service on September 22 and was home on a furlough to close up his business affairs in readiness to begin Army training on October 5.

He was born on February 12, 1902 at Idalia and this county had been his home for most of his life. He attended local schools, but before graduating from high school went to Denver and received his high school diploma at North High School in the capital city. Later he attended Nebraska University for two years and was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity.

After leaving school he was associated with his father in the lumber business at Wray for several years and also dealt in farm implements. He was respected for his business ability. Survivors include a son, Richard, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.Q. Conrad, a sister, Mrs. Carl Peterson of Wray and two brothers, Lawrence of Idalia and Kenneth of Wray.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at the Hitchcock Mortuary conducted by Rev. William Brown.
