27th 1827,
Died: Sept. 20th 1868.
He was killed by Indians on the Western Plains,
while acting as Surgeon
in the army of the United States.

Dr. John H. Mooers, whose death is announced by our special dispatch, had lived at Hays City about one year and was a physician and druggist. He belonged in Plattsburg, N.Y. where he leaves a widow and one child. Eilas Woodruff, Esq., of this city, is a brother-in-law of the deceased.
Dr. Mooers acted as surgeon during the war, serving four years. In Northern New York he stood very high in his profession. He was a cultivated and genial gentleman had had hosts of friends.
He received a fatal shot while dressing the wounds of Col. Forsyth.
