George Roberts, sister Elizabeth (Roberts) Shafer

In 1860 Olathe, Kansas, John Roberts is 47, Margaret 36, Ben F. 20, Catherine J. 18, Elisabeth S. 16, MATILDA A. (married Samuel Gilbert, also of Laird) 14, George W. 10, Eliza A. 8, Madore E. 6, Amanda 4, and John 2.
Margaret Davis and John Roberts had married August 21, 1839 in Braxton County, Virginia.
ELIZABETH

Elizabeth / Elisabeth S. Roberts, daughter of John Roberts and Margaret Davis was born on Oct 14, 1843 in Braxton, WV; of Washington, KS. She died on Apr 10, 1924 in Laird, Yuma Co., CO.
William Shafer was born about 1842 in Germany; of Washington, KS. He died about 1877. He married Elizabeth / Elisabeth S. Roberts, daughter of John Roberts and Margaret Davis on Jul 29, 1866 in Washington, KS.

Mary Maude Elizabeth Shafer, daughter of William Shafer and Elizabeth / Elisabeth S. Roberts was born on May 19, 1867 in Washington, Washington, KS. She died on Apr 22, 1944 in Offield Conv. Home, Denver, Denver, CO. She married George Henry Baker, son of Albert Henry Baker and Lavina / Lavida / Levida Keith on May 07, 1890 in Lincoln, Lancaster, NE. He was born on Feb 14, 1863 in Nunda, Livingston, NY or PA. He died on Oct 10, 1932 in Wray Hospital, Wray, Yuma, CO.

George Perry Shafer, son of William Shafer and Elizabeth / Elisabeth S. Roberts was born on Jul 27, 1870 in Washington Co, KS. He died on Mar 12, 1950 in Yuma Co., CO. He married Edith Myrtle Seward in April 1896. She was born on Nov 29, 1877 in Union Co., IA. She died on Dec 20, 1967.
Nina Shafer, daughter of William Shafer and Elizabeth / Elisabeth S. Roberts was born in 1875. She died in 1887 in Yuma Co., CO.

GEORGE

December 9, 1899 "About twenty friends and relatives met with G. W. Roberts and daughter on Thanksgiving day and partook of a sumptuous dinner. Miss Winnie, although early in her teens, acted as hostess in a charming manner."


February 17, 1900 "Mrs. Cynthia Roberts was buried last Sunday afternoon, Rev. Ellis conducting the service. The deceased suffered an attack of appoplexy on Tuesday of last week and lingered until Saturday, when her soul was freed. She was 55 years of age and the wife of Geo. Roberts."

George W. Roberts and Elizabeth M. Fowler married in Laird on February 21, 1901.
Elizabeth had claimed land about seven miles southeast of Wray, section 28, 1N 42W in 1899.

George and Lizzie M. Roberts divorced in Yuma County in 1909.

James Fowler married "Nete" Roberts on August 1, 1901, recorded in Yuma County.

April 11, 1902 Laird "Geo Roberts has moved into his city hotel."
"G. W. Roberts has opened the new hotel in Laird."
September 27, 1907 Laird "B. F. Roberts, of Auburn, Nebr., a brother to Dr. Geo. Roberts and Mrs. Gilbert, is visiting these relatives here.

November 22, 1907 "Married, at the residence of Rev. T. I. Steele, who performed the ceremony, at Laird, Colo., Saturday evening, Nov. 19, 1907, Mr. William Rife and Miss Lois May Roberts, both of Laird. The contracting parties are widely known in this community, having resided here for several years. The groom is one of our energetic farmers, while the bride is one of Laird's popular teachers. They begin housekeeping at once on the groom's farm, seven miles south of Laird."

1909 Laird Items "Mrs. James Fowler and four children, who have been down at Laird, visiting Mrs. Fowler's father George Roberts and her sister, Mrs. Wm. Rife for the past two months, returned Tuesday morning to her home in Billings, Montana."

Juanita Charlotte (Roberts) Fowler 1883-1935 is buried in Custer, Montana # 104111433.

October 1909 "Mrs. Walter Wilkinson and daughter Ruby, who have been visiting Mr. Geo. Roberts, departed for Yuma Tuesday morning." (One Wilkinson girl married George Waters of Laird)

In 1910 Laird, George 59 born in West Virginia, married two years to Anna M. 48 Mississippi - second marriage for both.
Neither have occupations.
1911 Laird items "Mrs. George Roberts and Mrs. Gilbert were Wray shoppers this week."

George W. Roberts 1850-1935 and Cynthia 1845-1900 are buried in Wray.

June 24, 1915 "Mrs. Geo. Roberts is enjoying a visit from her son, Mr. Bell, his wife and daughter. Their home is in Honolulu, Hawaii."

September 1915 Laird "Mrs. Annie LaFrance, of Vancouver, arrived in Wray last Friday. She is staying at G.W. Roberts."

In 1920 Yuma County, "Jorge Rorerts" is 70, Anny M. 59, no occupations.

In 1930 Laird precinct, George is 80, Anna M. 69, neither with occupations.

The 1934 directory has "Mrs. Nannie Roberts" in the township 1N 43W - where George was in 1920.

April 18, 1935 Kirk items

Anna is widowed in 1940 Laird, age 79.

She's buried in the same section in Wray as George and Cynthia 1861-May 25, 1949. There was another Anna Roberts near Laird, widow of Gene. This Anna later married a Girard, per the East Yuma County History.
