March 10, 1927 " On account of illness Miss Viola McFarland was unable to teach Friday and her brother Jim McFarland a senior of the Eckley High School substituted for her."

March 24, 1927 "The snowstorm Saturday again made the roads almost impassable. There were no services held at the church Sunday and Miss Viola McFarland was unable to reach her school Monday, and as the teachers of the high school (Waverly) failed to make their way thru the drifted roads the high school pupils and pupils of the west school enjoyed a vacation. The mailman was unable to make his route."

June 5, 1930 "Miss Ila A. New of Eckley became the bride of Mr. Ernest T. Hendrie of Denver last Sunday morning at 7:30 at _ the Methodist Parsonage in Wray. Rev .A. M. Carpenter officiated using the ring ceremony. The bridal couple were attended by Miss Genevieve Hendrie, sister of the groom and Mr. Myron New, brother of the bride, and by the mothers of the bride and groom. After the ceremony, the bridal party went to the home of the groom’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Hendrie of souhweet of Wray where ( a sumptuous wedding breakfast war 1 served. From here, they went to Eckley, where they were entertained at luncheon at the home of the bride’s sister, Mrs. Jim Probasco. In the afternoon, Mr. and Mrs. Hendrie, Miss Hendrie and Mr. New motored to Boulder where they were entertained at a six o’clock dinner at the home of the bride’s brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Harold New. The newlyweds went on to Denver from Boulder. The bride is a popular Eckley girl. She graduated from the high school at Eckley with the class of 1929, and has a wide circle of friends in that community. The groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Hendrie of near Wray. He attended high school in Wray, graduating with the class of 1927. He is now a valued employee of Quinn and McGill Motor Supply Co., of Denver. Mr. and Mrs. Hendrie will be at borne to their friends at 1646 High Street, Denver, Colo."

September 1931 Eckley "Mrs. Harold New and family of Boulder and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hendrie of Denver are visiting in the Ed Wray home. Mrs. Irene New, who has been visiting in their homes returned with them."

April 28, 1955 "James William McFarland, 78, a resident of this county since 1920, died following a heart attach at his home in Eckley Sunday. Funeral services will be held from the Morris Mortuary In Yuma this Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock with Rev. Donald W. Johnson officiating and burial will follow in the Eckley cemetery. Mr. McFarland was bom March 4, 1877, at West Plains, Mo. He was a son of William and Fanney McFarland. On March 10, 1907, he and Lucy Elizabeth Burrough were married at West Plains. Six children were bom to them, five of whom survive their father. The McFarlands moved to Colorado from Missouri in 1920 and farmed here until 1939, when they retired and made their home in Eckley. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Jessie L. of Wray, Roy W. of Vernon and Luther H. of Denver; two daughters, Mrs. MoUic Perkins and Mrs. Fanney McCoy, both of Denver; six grandchildren, two great grandchildren and two brothers."
