Funeral services for this well-known Wray lady were held at the Christian church in Wray Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock, with the Rev. Dari R. Saladen officiating. A profusion of flowers and the attendance of many friends attested to the affection in which she was held. Interment was at Grandview cemetery.
Hulda Charlotte Wiklund, daughter of John and Anna Wiklund, was born in Gransfors, Sweden, May 14, 1873, and died at her home in Wray on March 31, 1956, at the age of 82 years, 10 months and 17 days. Mrs. Oman received her education in Sweden, and at the age of 29 came to America, being employed in Boston where her brother, John, resided. Although the memories of her native Sweden were treasured, she readily adopted the customs and the written and spoken language of her new homeland.
To it she gave her loyalty and devotion. On May 24, 1905, she was united in marriage to Olof H. Oman at a beautiful home wedding in Lyons, Neb. Last May, with their five children present, many of their grandchildren, relatives and friends, they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at the Christian church in Wray. Family pictures and movies were taken to help recall to memory this happy occasion.
In 1913 the family settled on a homestead near Cope, where they made their home until 1927. Since then, with the exception of four years spent near Lyons, Neb., they have lived in Wray.
In 1948 Mrs. Oman suffered a stroke, but with her pioneer courage, faith and determination, plus the loving care of her husband, she recovered sufficiently to enable them to make a trip to Boston the fallowing year. She had remained alert and quite active, even going to the table for the noon meal before departing this life Saturday afternoon.
Her special interests, in addition to her church, were the news of the world, civic affairs and current events.
Shortly after moving to this city the Omans united with the Christian church, whose welfare was close to her heart.
Left to be inspired by her fine qualities are her devoted husband, Olof; their four daughters, Mrs. Esther Jameson of Thedford, Neb.; Mrs. Anna Sundquist of Lyons, Neb.. Mrs. Lillie McGinnis of Wray and Mrs. Jennie Monk of Yuma; their son, Herbert Oman of Wray; a brother, Gustaf Wiklund of Wray, and one sister, Mrs. Alma Wallstram of Stromsbruk, Sweden. There are also 19 grandchildren and two great grandchildren."
