The Colorado District of the Church of the Nazarene was organized in Pueblo in 1913.  The district held an annual meeting, this one at Kirk, Colorado in 1919.  However primitive the origins and frontier evangelistic style of the Nazarene churches in Colorado may seem, the Church of the Nazarene denomination occupies a respected place today with churches throughout Colorado and a fine Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs.

September 1918 - Montrose Daily Press
"Superintendent A. E. Sanner of the Colorado district, Pentecostal church of the Nazarene, was in Montrose on Monday, and Tuesday noon left for the eastern slope, after paying the local church a visit. He reports that the Delta Nazarene church has called Rev. J. R. Hunter as regular pastor and that they have now a membership of 52 and are still growing. Sanner is very fond of Montrose as a city and of its climate and people, and says he hopes to visit here often."

May 1919, Montrose Daily Press
"At tho Nazarene church Monday evening Rev. C. P. Ellis and Rev. J. R. Hunter of Grand Junction and Delta churches respectively, will hold a big meeting, stopping off on their way to attend the assembly at Kirk, Colo. They will probably be greeted by a largo crowd, having many friends here. They are going to the assembly in their cars, accompanied by their families."

Rev. and Mrs. John R. Hunter and their 11-year old son, Paul, are seated at the picnic spread with others from the newly-organized Delta Nazarene Church. The others are unnamed. They were stopped to have lunch on their way to the 1919 District Assembly meeting in Kirk, Colorado.

April 1920 Montrose Daily Press "Mrs. Joseph Ransom of Delta was an arrival in the city Tuesday to see about a real estate deal. She says the revivals in the Nazarene church at Delta are making headway. Rev. C. P. Ellis, of Grand Junction, formerly of this city, is assisting Rev. J. R. Hunter of the Delta church in the meetings."

June 13, 1920 Delta Independent "Rev. J. R. Hunter nnd family returned Friday from Kirk, Colorado where the annual assembly of the Nazarene church was held. Mr Hunter's mother, Mrs. Jennie Hughes, returned with them for a visit. The trip was made overland nnd as this was the lady's first visit to this section, it is needless to say she enjoyed the trip."
