Frank Filmore Lett of Mina, South Dakota (formerly of the Wages community area)
was born on July 19, 1905 at his family's farm in Yuma County. He was the son of
Samuel Ellis and Rettie Sheridan Lett. Frank Lett died on February 19, 1998 in
Ipswich, South Dakota at the age of 92.
Frank attended grade school at the Ford School in Yuma County and then completed
high school in Sterling.
Frank was united in marriage on February 2, 1926 to Sarah Iona Salvador at her
parents' home in the Wages community area. To this union five children were
born: Lola, Vivian, Samuel, who died as an infant, Harris and Janette.
Frank farmed and ranched in Yuma County until retiring in 1972. Frank and Iona
continued to live on their farm following retirement. They enjoyed traveling
until Iona's health failed. Iona preceded Frank in death in 1979. He moved to
Longmont in 1981 to live with his daughter Vivian.
Frank Lett and Edith Virgil were united in marriage in 1984. They moved to Mina,
South Dakota in 1987 where they built a home. Frank's health began to fail in
1992. He entered the Colonial Manor Home in Ipswich, South Dakota where he
resided until his death.
Those who knew Mr. Lett said that he was a man who would help a neighbor
whenever he was needed, regardless of the time required or the difficulty of the
task. He was a very skilled carpenter and handyman. He was always available to
help with any project at the Wages Church which he had regularly attended. Frank
was devoted to his grandchildren and especially enjoyed spending time with them.
The care of his livestock and animals was very important to Frank. He was very
fond of his collie dogs, Poochie and Duke.
He is survived by his wife, Edith Virgil Lett of Mina, South Dakota, children
Harris Lett and wife Sharron of Holyoke, Lola Ozman and husband Dale of Denver,
Vivian Hamann and husband Milt of Longmont, Janette Benedict and husband Darwin
of Thornton; step-children, Clyde Virgil of Mina, South Dakota, Eldon Virgil of
Castle Rock, Beryl Virgil of Portland, Oregon and Beverly Lee of Longmont;
sister Pearl McDermott and husband Don of Denver, and by 11 grandchildren; 15
great-grandchildren; and by many nephews, nieces and friends.
Funeral services for Frank Filmore Lett were conducted on Monday, February 23,
1998 at the Schmidt-Baucke Funeral Chapel in Holyoke, with Reverend Roy
Pfaltzgraff officiating. Interment was made in the Holyoke Memorial Park.
