Robert L. Elliott

Robert "Bob" L. Elliott, 78, of Akron, passed away Monday, September 23, 2013, at the Washington County Nursing Home. Bob was born in Akron on September 19, 1935, the youngest of seven children, to Alvis and Ada Elliott. He attended Akron School.

In January of 1956, Bob joined the United States Navy and served his country for six years, being discharged on January 24, 1962. Bob returned to Akron and married Janice Twiss on October 6, 1963. They had two sons, Mike and Rick.

Bob worked for the Washington County Hospital for 18 years and the Town of Akron for 14 years, retiring in September of 1997. After retirement, Bob drove the County Express Bus for 11 years, forming close friendships with the passengers.

Bob was known for his sense of humor and could often be found at Cornerstone for coffee, joking with friends and waitresses. He was a dedicated Akron sports fan, running the chains and down marker at football games for many years.

He was a member of the Akron Foursquare Church, Akron Booster Club, Akron Lions Club, Akron Elks Club, VFW, and the American Legion, and he took great pride in marching in parades with the Color Guard.

On November 19, 1982, Bob began his life with Zadine Vaughn. Together they enjoyed 32 years of love and devotion, often camping and fishing. Bob loved riding his motorcycle, cheering for the Broncos and Akron Rams, and attending family gatherings.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, six brothers-in-law, and one brother. He is survived by his wife, Zadine; sons Mike (Bev) Elliott of Garland, Texas, and Rick (Jan) Elliott of Imperial, Nebraska; Terry (Jamie) Noel of Denver, and Connie (Marshall) Squires of Goodland, Kansas; sisters Eldora Sherman of Denver and Helen Fox of Akron; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A funeral service was held Friday, September 27, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at the Foursquare Church of Akron, with interment at the Akron Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the family of Bob Elliott. Bowin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
