February 12, 1915 "Mrs. Amanda Shaffer passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Woodruff on Central avenue shortly after seven on Thursday evening. Mrs. Shaffer had been ailing for some time and failed rapidly within the past few weeks. Old age given as the causa of death, she being eighty-three years old at her last blrthday. Three children survive, Mrs. Woodruff and Lucina Shaffer of this city, and Shaffer of Denver. The funeral will be held from the residence on Saturday."

January 1897 Victor, Colorado " Word comes to us that our friend E. L. Shaffer, favorably known as the surveyor at the Independence mine, was married in Denver during the past week to an old schoolmate, a young lady of most estimable character and fine attainments. The many friends of Mr. Shaffer are phased to hear of his good fortune, and extend their heartiest congratulations."
"The Record is in possession of reliable information, refuting the report of the marriage of E. L. Shaffer. We are further reliably informed that tbe idea was undoubtedly born of an hallucination in the mind of one of the boys, who is known to be endeavoring to keep his spirits in an amicable mood while contemplating the near approach of a matrimonial alliance."

September 1898 Victor, Colorado "A marriage license was issued yesterday authorizing Edward L. Shaffer to make Miss Lulu P. Canterbury Mrs. Shaffer, which he promptly did."
" Last night at 8:30 Rev. L. E. McNair united in marriage Miss Lulu Canterbury and Edward L. Shaffer, both of whom are well known and popular young people of this city. Mr. Shaffer is a civil engineer at the Independence mine, and his wife is a niece of a Mrs. Evans of this city. The couple have gone to Omaha on a wedding tour.

October 1898 Denver "Mr. E. L. Shaffer, engineer and draughtsman in the Independence mine at Victor, was married September 28 to Miss Pearl Canterbury of that city. Mr. and Mrs. Shaffer are the guests of the cousins of the former, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Hunter of South Denver. Mrs. Hunter will give a reception in their honor tomorrow night."

October 1898 "Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Hunter, of 351 Broadway, gave a reception Monday evening to their cousins, E. L. Shaffer and bride of Victor. None but intimate friends and schoolmates from his former home, Mt. Carroll, Til.. Atchison. Kan., and Denver, were invited. The table was decorated in pink and white. A pink floral bell being suspended with ribbon and smilax. Mrs. William Elkin and Miss Julia Meryweather assisted in serving. Those present were Mrs. Ludwick. Mrs. Ellen Brown, Mrs. Sarah Picgbt, Mrs. Phelps, Mrs. Arthur Grace, Mrs. Laura Livingston, Mrs. E. M. Blanger. Mr. ami Mrs. Elmer S. Emmert, Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Meryweather, Mr. and Mrs. F. December 1898 " Mrs. E. L. Shaffer, and sister, Miss Olive Canterbury, left Sunday evening to spend the holidays with their parents at Cantrall, I11."

January 1899 "Mrs. Edward Livington Shaffer is expected this week to return from Illinois."

November 1899 "E. L. Shaffer, wife and baby go this week for a visit to Mr. Shaffer s old home near Chicago."
