Stringtown was a suburb built south of Leadville. It was the smelter area for the local mines, and tailing piles and other evidence can be seen for miles along the highway south of town. Some local businesses on the highway have the name Stringtown as part of their business name.
Mostly absorbed now by Leadville, it was started in 1888 and a school opened in 1893. Jacktown was located between Leadville and Stringtown, and it too, has disappeared.
