Collins, CO 80525 Elderfinder@aol.com November 03, 2002 ================================================= OBITUARY: Paonian 11/17/1949 Rancher, Developer Of Coal Mine, Dies Suddenly Friday Funeral service was held in the chapel of the Taylor Funeral Home yesterday afternoon for Albert O. Stucker, who passed away suddenly at six o'clock Friday evening, Nov. 11, at the age of 86 years. the rites were conducted by the Rev. Lois True, pastor of the Nazarene church, assisted by the Rev. W.W. Brandt of the Assembly of God. Appropriate music was supplied by Miss Gwendolyn Trotter. Burial was in Bethlehem cemetery, pallbearers being J. Gordon Hendricks, Ray Bruce, Ivan Hylton, Lynn Hylton, Roy Shaffer, and Harry Stucker. Albert Owen Stucker was born at Washington, Iowa, Aug. 17, 1866, and grew to manhood there. In 1895 he came to the Paonia district in a covered wagon, traveling the old Black mesa road, and homesteaded the ranch on the mesa now known as Stucker mesa. He developed the coal mine on the adjacent higher mesa now known as the Wolverton mine, and after operating that property several years, he devoted his time exclusively to farming until advancing years compelled him to retire from active occupation. Mr. Stucker married Miss Martha Ann Clark at Delta July 8, 1908. Three sons and four daughters were born to them - Roy E. Stucker of Whittier, Calif.; Owen Stucker and Mrs. Asenath Rheuby of Watsonville, Calif.; Ralph Stucker, Pomona, Calif.; Mrs. Ruth Griffin and Mrs. Frank Pottorff, of Paonia; Mrs. Mae Holveck of Cedaredge. There are also one sister and two brothers - Mrs. Callie Cox of Palacios, TX., John Stucker of Hotchkiss, and N.W.
