Smoky Hill Trail Monument - 6 miles west of Cheyenne Wells on Hwy. 40, erected in 1939. Marks the route of the Smoky Hill Trail. The trail extended from Kansas City (Westport) to Denver, passing through Fort Riley, Fort Hayes, and Fort Wallace. Used by gold seekers, soldiers and pioneers, Butterfield's Overland Dispatch and Wells Fargo Express. Photo
