Victor S. and Rose E. Strode, 6 South 48 West



In 1880 Clinton County, Ohio, William Strode is 41, Nancy M. 35, Granville 11, James 9, Mary E. 8, Farifax 5, Abraham 2, and Victor two months.

Rose Hubbell Strode was born April 4, 1880 in Chetopa, Kansas to Oliver Hubbell and Huldah C. Fiscuss.
In 1880 Cherokee County, Oliver is 48, Hulda 38, Albert 20, Orlena 18, mary L. 17,. Abraham 13, Ida M. 11, Anna 9, Emma 8, Ellen 6, Elmer 4, and Rosa two months old.

William 1838-1887 is buried in Clinton County # 119505841.

"Nannie" McGowan Strode 1845-1928 is buried in Cherokee County, Kansas # 150788451.

In 1900 Cherokee County, Rosa, born April 1880, is living with parents Oliver and Huldah.

Oliver 1832-1913 is buried in Chetope, Labette County, Kansas # 37277249, with Hulda Jane (Fiscus) Hubbell 1842-1922 # 83794000.

Victor, age 23, married Rosa Hubbell on December 23, 1903 in Cherokee County, Kansas.

In 1905 Cherokee County they have "Beatris" three months olds.

In 1910 Kit Carson County, Victor is farming, born in Ohio, married six years to Rose born in Kansas. Both are 30. Beatrice is 7, Bulah U. 4, and Oscar H. 2, all born in Kansas.
Victor claimed two quarters in 10, 6 South, 48W in 1913.

In 1915 Labette County, Kansas, V.S. and R.E. are 35, with Beatrice 10, Beulah 9, and Oskar 7.

Victor registered for WWI with a Vona address, farming, born April 12, 1880.

In 1920 Victor is still farming in Kit Carson, and the three kids are still with them.


In 1930 Victor is a carpenter in La Mesa, California, 49, with Rose 50 and Oscar 22.

Victor 1880-1930 is buried in Vona # 89281395, with Rose 1880-1937.



BEATRICE

In 1920 Kit Carson COunty, Henry Gade is farming, 54, with Augusta 53, and ten kids, including Walter 26.

Walter Gade, 32, married Beatrice Strode on May 26, 1926, in Kit Carson County. "witnesses Wanda E Gade and Oscar H Strode "

In 1930 Kit Carson County, Walter A. Gade is farming, 36, with Beatrice 24. Leland 3 was born iCalifornia, Alberta 2 imonths in COlorado.

On the same page is the Otis Hubbell family. He's 36 born in Kanss, with Catherine 33 and fiv kids.

1935 Yuma "Mrs. Strode of Vona is here visiting at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Walter Gade."

In 1940 Calhoun County, Illinois, Walter Gade is a service station attendant, 47, born in Wisconsin, with Beatrice 44 born in Kansas. Leland 13 was born in California, Alberta 10, Willabelle 9, Stanley 7 in Colorado, and Janell 1 in Illinois. They were in Yuma County in 1935.

In 1955 Calhoun County, Beulah Cockrell and Beatrice Gade received caps for completing a sixteen-week nursing prcourse.

Walter 1893-1976 is buried in Madison County, Illinois, # 101553700, with Beatrice E. Gade 1904-1981 # 101553725.


OSCAR

Oscar H. Strode, born December 14, 1907, died July 4, 2002, last residence Kankakee, Illinois.


POSSIBLE: 1938 Peoria Illinois "Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Strode and son, Rodger, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Burns and son, James, have returned from Batchtown where they spent the week-end with relatives:

In 1940 Madison County, Illinois, Oscar "Stode" is 32, managing an oil refinery, born in Kansas, with Lois 26 and Roger 4. Charlie Ziglang 17 is with them - must be Lois' brother.

1941 Alton "Mrs. Robert K. Burns entertained with a shower yesterday afternoon at her home, 220 Garden street, for Mrs. Oscar Strode of Alton."

October 1941 Alton "Mr. and Mrs. Oscar H. Strode of 701 Milton road are announcing the birth of a daughter, born at 9:23 a. m., today at Alton Memorial Hospital. The baby weighed six pounds. "

In 1950 Peoria, Oscar H. (Lois L.) is manager of Johnson Oil Refg., living at the rear of 122 N. Jefferson.

1955 Alton, Illinois "Charles Zigrang, ti8, father of Mrs. Waller Brown of 1001 Logan St., died unexpectedly shortly before noon today at his home- In Ratchtown. He hnd been In 111 health for some time, but his denlh today was unexpected. Zigrang, a retired orchardist, in recent years had written insurance, scryed as a notary public, and made out income tax reports. Surviving in addition to his daughter, Mrs. Brown, are his widow, Mrs. Rose Zigrang, two daughters, Mrs. Howard McKinny, Streator, and Mrs. Oscar Strode, Peoria.

"Services for Oscar H. Strode, 94, of Bourbonnais, were held July 8 at the Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes. Rev. Martin Guetzmer officiated.
Mr. Strode died July 4, 2002. Burial was in Kankakee Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers were Scott, Mike and Chris Wakeley, Steven and Roger Strode Jr., and David Dillman."

Roger D. Strode 1936-2002 is buried in Camp Butler National, Springfield, Illinois.

Judith Ann Strode, 68, of Clinton, formerly of Mahomet, passed away at 9:32 p.m. Thursday, February 5, 2009, in peace and surrounded by family following a graceful battle with cancer.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, February 17, 2009, at the Mahomet United Methodist Church, 1302 E. South Mahomet Road, Mahomet. Her children and grandchildren will greet friends and family at the church from 4 to 6 p.m. preceding the memorial service.
A private burial with her children and grandchildren will take place on Wednesday, February 18, 2009, at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, where she will be interred beside her husband, Roger Strode, who preceded her in death.
Judy was born to Adolph and Madelyn Evans on September 21, 1940, in Kankakee. She married Roger Strode on March 10, 1962, in Kankakee. After 40 years of marriage, he passed away on April 22, 2002.
She leaves behind three children, Roger Strode Jr. of Shorewood, Wis., Steve (Michele) Strode of Monticello and Allyssa (Andy) Harpst of Mahomet. She was a loving grandmother to seven grandchildren, Kelsey, Emma and Michael Strode of Shorewood, Wis., Griffin, Greyson and Grant Strode of Monticello and Mark Harpst of Mahomet. Judy was sister to two brothers, Dave (Erva) Evans of Bourbonnais and Jon (Barb) Evans of Kankakee and two sisters, Karen (Dick) Campbell and Pam (Mike) Persson, all of Kankakee. Judy also leaves a sister-in-law, Nina (Joe) Wakeley of Bourbonnais, and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Strode graduated from Kankakee High School in 1958. She worked in several positions in Kankakee until she married Roger and finally moved to Mahomet to allow her husband the opportunity to attend the University of Illinois School of Law. She was very involved in the Mahomet community where she raised her family and assisted her husband in his law practice for more than 20 years. She was an active member of the Mahomet United Methodist Church, serving on many committees; was a member of the Mahomet Town and Country Women's Club and the Mahomet PTA; and was active with the Mahomet Public Library.
Judy was an avid reader; she loved antiques, movies, playing cards, and entertaining for family and friends. She supported her husband's love for University of Illinois football and basketball, having attended hundreds of Fighting Illini sporting events.
Judy, a loving mother and grandmother, was very social and will be missed by all who loved her.

BEULAH

Beulah V. Strode, age 18, married Martin A. Cockrell in Cheyenne Wells Colorado on October 7, 1924.

In 1930 Martin is a truck driver in Calhoun County, Illinois, 27, born in Illinois, with Beulah 24. They hae Hugo P. 2 born in California,

In 1940 Calhoun County, Martin 37 and Beueah 34 have Nancy 6.

"The son of William Payton Cockrell and Anna Mary Fiedler, Martin married Beulah Strode in the late 1920's. They lived in California during the early years of their marriage.
By 1930, the Cockrells returned to Calhoun County, Illinois. He worked there as a farmer, and they were the parents of 3 children.
Martin was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Alton for medical treatment on 07 Oct 1941. He died there 2 days later. "

Beulah is buried in Madison County, Illinois # 55307709
" The daughter of Victor S. Strode and Rose Etta Hubbell, Beulah was raised in Kit Carson County, Colorado where her father was a grain farmer.
In the late 1920's, Beulah married Martin A. Cockrell. They lived in California during the early years of their marriage.
By 1930, the Cockrells returned to Calhoun County, Illinois. He worked there as a farmer, and they were the parents of 3 children. After Martin died in 1941 at the age of 38, Beulah worked as a private duty nurse.
Children from first marriage: 1 son, 2 daughters.
Beulah married a William M. Yarborough on 22 Dec 1963 in Bethalto, Madison County, Illinois. The couple lived in East Alton.
Children from second marriage: 3 step-daughters, 3 step-sons.
According to her obituary, printed in the Alton Telegraph the day of her death, Beulah passed away at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville. At the time of her death, she was 75 years, 3 months and 21 days old. She was survived by her second husband, William; 1 daughter; 1 son; 3 step-daughters; 3 step-sons; 22 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 1 brother, Oscar Strode of Kankakee.
Visitation was held after 4 p.m. on 21 Apr 1981 at Marks Morturay. Funeral services were conducted there at 1:30 p.m. the following afternoon."
