Bent County is in southeast Colorado. It is located in the Arkansas River Valley, roughly 80 miles from the New Mexico border and 38 miles from the Kansas border. The county seat and only incorporated city is Las Animas
Bents Old Fort
Bent's Old Fort, located near La Junta in southeast Colorado's Bent County, is a reconstructed 1840s adobe fur trading post on the Santa Fe Trail, a vital hub for traders, trappers, and Native Americans (Cheyenne, Arapaho, Kiowa) in the 1830s-40s, now a National Historic Site preserving westward expansion history with costumed interpreters showing its diverse cultural exchange.
