About Alamosa County

Formed in 1913 from Costilla and Conejos Counties, Alamosa County sits in the heart of the San Luis Valley. The city of Alamosa is the county seat and long‑time regional hub for rail, agriculture, and education (home to Adams State University). The Rio Grande flows through the county, and the Great Sand Dunes lie nearby, making Alamosa a crossroads of history, culture, and outdoor landscapes.
